[ARCHIVED] 50th Anniversary of Earth Day Celebration Goes Digital in North Miami

February 22, 2020

Wednesday, April 22, at 10 a.m., the city of North Miami will mark the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day with an educational webinar that includes the digital unveiling of the City’s first Citizen’s Guide to Resiliency and Sustainability.

North Miami’s Digital Earth Day Celebration is hosted by the City’s Community Planning and Development Department (CP&D) and District 2 Councilwoman, Carol Keys, Esq. Due to COVID-19, Earth Day observations worldwide have been shifted to virtual platforms in a continued effort to address the most urgent threats to people and the planet.

As part of North Miami’s on-going Resilient NoMi campaign, the City’s Digital Earth Day webinar, led by Brizaga, Inc., will cover local green resources, services and updates on all of North Miami’s latest sustainability initiatives.

For several months, in an effort sponsored by Keys, Brizaga, Inc. worked in conjunction with CP&D’s Sustainability Division to develop content for the web based magazine-style publication. A first of its kind in the City, the publication walks North Miami residents, students, business owners and visitors through practical tips for being good custodians of the environment and several calls to actions that reinforce this goal. This guide is not only relevant in North Miami. Its content can can be applied universally. The guide is available at

“Our fantastic Green Awareness Fair usually takes place this time of year. Circumstances called for something different; but this is still pretty great,” said Keys. “We’re excited to give a North Miami perspective on resiliency and the green lifestyle through our new guide. We’re so pleased to introduce our new Resilient NoMi campaign in this way.”

The first Earth Day took place April 22, 1970 and gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet. It ultimately led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species acts. The overarching goal continues in North Miami through initiatives such as Resilient NoMi.
