Celebrate Haitian Heritage Month in the City of North Miami with a Series of Events

The City of North Miami's ongoing attempt to honor the diverse cultures of its population provides for additional teachings and integration among individuals from various origins. The city is proud to announce the celebration for Haitian Heritage Month throughout the month of May. This will serve as an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of Haitian descendants to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of the city and nation. 

Haitian Heritage Month is a time for all Americans to recognize the significant impact that Haiti has made in the United States in areas such as art, music, literature, science, medicine, politics, and education. It also serves as a time to recognize the history, culture, and traditions of the country and its people. 

Throughout May, North Miami will partner with local organizations and community leaders to host the following events and activities that highlight Haitian culture: 

Kompa Classes
Wednesday, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 6:30 PM – 7:45 PM
North Miami Public Library, 835 NE 132 Street, North Miami, FL 33161
Learn Haitian Kompa, the modern meringue dance of Haiti, every Wednesday during the month of May at the North Miami Public Library. 

Mental Health Lunch and Learn
Thursday, May 4, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Indulge in conversations concerning mental health and the stigmas surrounding it. 

MOCA Mini Makers
