City of North Miami hosts summer events for residents of all ages

The City of North Miami announced a lineup of engaging summer programs designed to enrich the lives of local residents. As the summer season approaches, the city is committed to providing a diverse range of activities and events that cater to the interests and passions of residents of all ages. 

Children and youth will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational and recreational summer camps. These camps will focus on a wide range of interests, including arts and crafts, sports, technology, science, and nature exploration. The aim of the programs is to foster creativity, physical fitness, and critical thinking skills while ensuring that children have a memorable and enjoyable summer experience. 

For adults, a series of informative workshops and seminars are available. These sessions will cover diverse topics such as personal finance management, wellness and self-care, and sustainable living practices. They are designed to empower attendees with knowledge and skills that will contribute to personal and professional growth. 

The following are just some of the activities happening around the City of North Miami: 

Crafty Kids takes place every Monday, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at the North Miami Public Library, 835 NE 132 Street, North Miami, FL 33161. Kids can explore various crafts, such as paper folding, clay modeling, weaving, painting, and more. They will get to use their imagination and creativity and take-home handmade masterpieces. 

Sing and Read is every Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. This series will join books and music to make reading even more fun. 

Alyssa Mack-lie Lucien Learn to Swim Program Session 1is happening now through Sunday, July 2, 2023. It is taking place at Thomas Sasso Pool and Playground, 1100 NW 125 Street, North Miami, FL, 33168. Swimmers receive water safety education, a lifetime of fun, fitness, and even employment opportunities. Swimmers work through levels as they master basic through advanced skills. 

2023 Summer Reading Challenge is now through Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the North Miami Public Library. Weekly prizes are given to those who read the most books during the week and a grand prize to those in each category who read the most books through the duration of the Summer Reading Challenge. 

Joe Celestin Camp is currently in Session 1 through Friday, June 23, 2023, 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. It is taking place at Joe Celestin Community Center, 1525 NW 135 Street, North Miami, FL, 33167. The camp is for ages 6-12 and offers participants a traditional summer camp experience. Campers will participate in themed weeks, on-site activities, games, tournaments, and field trips. 

Ride into Reading is Friday, June 16, 2023, 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., for ages 8-18. It takes place at the North Miami Public Library. Patrons are encouraged to attend and learn to ride safely with bike safety tips and rules of the road for summer bike riding adventures. 

2023 Summer Reading Children’s Programming – Mama Mia Magic Show is Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at the North Miami Public Library. The community is invited to attend a morning of mystery, laughter, and literary celebration. 

2023 Summer Reading Teen Programming – AI and Society: Hands on Experience in Creating Unique Content is Tuesday, June 20, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. It introduces young minds to the fascinating world of artificial intelligence (AI) and provides teens with hands on experience in creating unique content. Chalk The Block with Kindness in Celebration of Pride Month is Wednesday, June 21, 2023, 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., at North Miami Public Library. Participants can share stories about kindness and then use colorful chalk to write uplifting messages and draw cheerful pictures on the sidewalk outside the library. 

MVP Sports Camp is currently holding Session 1through Friday, June 23, 2023, 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., at Keystone Center, 13050 Ixora Court, North Miami, FL, 33181. The camp is for ages 8-14 and it offers participants an active and adventurous summer camp experience. Campers will participate in sports-related themed weeks, on-site activities, sports clinics, tournaments, and unique field trips. 

2023 Summer Reading Children’s Programming – Wildlife Animal Show is Tuesday, June 27, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at the North Miami Public Library. Attendees will meet some extraordinary creatures up close and personal. 

2023 Summer Reading Teen Programming – Picture Perfect: AI Driven Imagine Creation is Tuesday, June 27, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. It will introduce young minds to the fascinating world of AI and provide teens with hands on experience in creating unique content. 

Special Guest Storytime in Recognition of Pride Month is Wednesday, June 28, 2023, 4:30 p.m. at the North Miami Public Library. The story time will feature guest reader North Miami District 1 Councilman Scott Galvin. 

2023 Summer Reading Children’s Programming – Miami Children’s Museum Presents – Simamanami is Tuesday, July 11, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at the North Miami Public Library. It is a salute to African storytelling. 

2023 Summer Reading Teen Programming – Application of AI: Hands-On Experience is Tuesday, July 11, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. It introduces young minds to the fascinating world of AI and provides teens with hands on experience in creating unique content. 

2023 Summer Reading Children’s Programming – Wildlife Animal Show (For Families) is Saturday, July 15, 2023, 2:00 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. The entire family can meet some extraordinary creatures up close and personal. 

2023 Summer Reading Children’s Programming – Mad Science is Tuesday, July 18, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at the North Miami Public Library. Kids will make unique hands-on science experiments at the library. 

2023 Summer Reading Teen Programming – Fusion Magic: Combining Text and Images is Tuesday, July 18, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. It will introduce young minds to the fascinating world of AI and provide teens with hands on experience in creating unique content. 

2023 Summer Reading Children’s Programming – Mystic Drumz is Tuesday, July 25, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at the North Miami Public Library. It will bring an interactive percussion experience to the library. 

2023 Summer Reading Teen Programming – Future of AI: Hands- On Experience is Tuesday, July 25, 2023, 1:00 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. It will introduce young minds to the fascinating world of AI and provide teens with hands on experience in creating unique content. 

2023 Summer Reading Children’s Programming – Summer Reading Wrap Up is Saturday, July 29, 2023, 2:00 p.m., at the North Miami Public Library. This is a summer reading magic show including the announcement of the 2023 Summer Reading Challenge winners.
