The City of North Miami will Honor Retired Employee Andrea A. McDonald during a Street Naming Ceremony

North Miami, FL – March 29, 2021

The City of North Miami will honor retired City employee Andrea A. McDonald during a Street Naming Ceremony. The ribbon cutting event will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at the intersection of NW 130th Street and NW 10th Avenue in North Miami, Florida, 33161.

North Miami’s Councilman Alix Desulme sponsored a resolution to designate and name NW 130th Street between NW 10th Avenue and 11th Avenue as “Andrea A McDonald Street.” The resolution was adopted by a unanimous vote during a City council meeting held on March 9th. The new street name aims to recognize Ms. McDonald for her 17-year career at North Miami’s City Hall where she has served as the Executive Assistant to the City Manager.

Born to Bahamian parents in Miami, Ms. McDonald has resided in North Miami for 31 years. After her own son and daughter enrolled in college, Ms. McDonald returned to school and attended Miami Dade College where she graduated with her Associates Degree in Office Administration. In 2012, Ms. McDonald was awarded “Employee of the Quarter” by the City of North Miami for her professionalism, team player attitude, and multi-tasking skills. Ms. McDonald was at the forefront of starting the Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce and the Family Christian Association of America before settling in the City of North Miami and raising her three children. Her daughter Gayle McDonald has also been a City of North Miami employee since 2016 and she now works in the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency.

In her efforts to empower the next generation of leaders, Ms. McDonald has served as the Board liaison for the North Miami Educational Foundation which was established to ensure educational opportunities for young students. Through her dedication, this organization has awarded more than $300,000 dollars to 91 students over the last few years.

All Covid-19 safety protocols will be enforced during this outdoor event. For more information, contact the Office of Mayor and Council at 305-895-9815. To request media credentials for the event, email Susset Cabrera at sucabrera@northmiamifl.gov
