North Miami to Provide Rental Assistance to Residents in Response to COVID-19 Crisis

May 26, 2020

Today, during the City of North Miami’s Virtual Regular Council Meeting, the Mayor and City Council members unanimously approved allocation of $157,427 in CDBG funding to develop the Emergency Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (ETBRA) program. Additional funding sources will be identified to provide more assistance in the coming weeks. The ETBRA program will assist individuals with a one-time payment up to $1,000 to households occupying rental units outside of CRA boundaries that have suffered loss of income or reduced wages due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications are available online.

“North Miami residents are facing challenging times and the need for financial assistance, food and mental health are dire within the City. We recognize those needs and have acted today by allocating funds to address our community’s needs. It is our hope and charge, as the elected body, to do whatever we can to help our residents during these unconventional times. The coronavirus is still spreading and a second wave may be in our near future. As a community we must remain attentive, practice social distancing and take heed to the safety measures in place” said Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime.

The City used a portion of the $452,692 in emergency funding from HUD to provide much needed relief to North Miami residents to cover their past due rent. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m. Completed applications and copies of required documents will be accepted at the Housing & Social Services Satellite Office, 13753 NW 7th Avenue, North Miami, FL 33168.

Printed applications will be available beginning Tuesday, May 27, to Wednesday, June 3, at the following locations:

  • North Miami Customer Service Center, 811 NE 125 Street
  • Housing & Social Services Satellite office, 13753 NW 7th Avenue

  • Gwen Margolis Community Center, 1590 NE 123 Street
  • Griffing Community Center, 12220 Griffing Blvd.
