[ARCHIVED] North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D., Selected to Attend Prestigious Summer Institute at Harvard Un

NORTH MIAMI, FL (July 11, 2025)

The City of North Miami is proud to announce that Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D., has been selected to participate in the highly competitive William Julius Wilson Institute–Harvard EdRedesign Summer Institute, for July 2025 at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This national leadership program brings together a select group of mayors and community leaders, who are spearheading place-based efforts to transform neighborhoods and expand cradle-to-career opportunities for youth and families.

The Summer Institute, themed “Transforming Place through Neighborhood Leadership,” is a collaboration between the William Julius Wilson Institute (WJWI), the Harlem Children’s Zone, and Harvard’s EdRedesign Lab. The program is designed to equip civic leaders with strategies to accelerate community impact through cross-sector collaboration, data-informed decision-making, and innovative funding models. Participants will engage in intensive learning around building equitable systems of support that foster long-term social and economic mobility for underserved communities.

Mayor Desulme’s selection is a personal honor and a meaningful milestone for North Miami. His participation highlights the City’s growing leadership in driving equity-focused, community-based initiatives that center youth, families, and opportunity. It also provides a unique opportunity to showcase the progress being made in North Miami on a national stage, especially efforts tied to public-private partnerships, wraparound services, and inclusive policy development.

“This invitation is a reflection of the meaningful work happening in North Miami,” said Mayor Desulme. “It is also a chance to bring back innovative strategies, national insights, and new partnerships that will help us continue investing in our neighborhoods and building a stronger future for every resident.”

The Summer Institute’s curriculum aligns closely with Mayor Desulme’s vision for North Miami, particularly his focus on education, economic mobility, health equity, and youth empowerment. North Miami’s Neighborhood Success Initiative, expanding mentorship and workforce readiness in underserved areas, reflects the same place-based leadership principles that are central to the Summer Institute. The Mayor’s participation will further enhance the City’s capacity to compete for funding, build compelling narratives around community impact, and develop strategies rooted in data and equity.
