Youth Opportunity Board (YOB) Summer Internship Program

Established by City ordinance in 1970, the Youth Opportunity Board (YOB) was originally created to enable young people to “review, study, and sponsor any and all youth activities which they may deem appropriate, including but not limited to recreation, education, culture and cultural programs”. The YOB Summer Internship Program (SIP) was then created as an extension and is proudly funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). This initiative is designed to empower young individuals by offering a structured, hands-on introduction to the inner workings of local government.

Through direct engagement with municipal departments, participation in community development initiatives, and exposure to public service operations, interns will gain valuable professional experience while developing a deeper understanding of civic responsibility and local governance.

All currently enrolled high school students who are 15 years of age or older (as of June 23, 2025) and are residents of North Miami, are able to apply but will also have to verify household income and assets for eligibility. Applicants should plan on working from June 23, 2025, through August 1, 2025. Interns will be paid 20 hours a week and have an opportunity to volunteer additional hours.

Applications for the current year are now closed.
