The North Miami Police Department “Officers of the Month” for April 2022 are Sergeant Rocio Torres and Detective Orestes Torres. They are both assigned to the Investigative Section.
On April 20, 2022, Sergeant Rocio Torres and Detective Orestes Torres led the 1st Annual Autism Acceptance and Awareness Police Caravan. Working as a team, they accomplished the Department’s Mission of “Building community trust through transparency and engagement.” They helped organize, manage and coordinate the hosting of the event, which took place in front of the North Miami Police Department. Dozens of attendees, including major community supporters of autism awareness and acceptance, local media outlets, representatives of the Miami Dolphins football organization, and Hall of Fame Quarterback Dan Marino came out to support the event.
The purpose of the Autism Acceptance and Awareness Police Caravan was to, not only bring about awareness to our community, but also result in acceptance of individuals living on the autism spectrum. The event succeeded in its goal of bringing acceptance and awareness, and will forever leave a “Positive Impact’ on the participants and the community.
For their dedication, hard work, and extraordinary demonstration of Unity, Professionalism, and community engagement, they are being recognized for their contribution to a very successful, Autism Acceptance and Awareness Police Caravan.
