Miami-Dade County coordinates area evacuations, the designation of emergency shelters, bus pick-up sites, etc. There are two types of evacuation instructions:

Evacuation Recommendation: Miami-Dade County may recommend that residents take steps to evacuate due to their personal risk. A recommendation might be issued to residents who may need extra time to evacuate due to mobility challenges or people who live in areas prone to flooding that may not be in storm surge inundation areas.

Evacuation Order: Miami-Dade County may mandate the evacuation of residents in North Miami deemed to be in danger, based on a hurricane’s track and projected storm surge. Areas located east of Biscayne Boulevard are issued evacuation orders for a Category 2 or greater hurricane. Areas located east of the F.E.C. Railroad (NE 14th - 16th Ave) are issued evacuation orders for Category 4 or 5 hurricanes.
