Statement from North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D., on the loss of former Elected City Clerk, Simon “Si” Bloom, Jr.
With deep sadness, the City of North Miami mourns the loss of former North Miami Elected City Clerk Simon “Si” Bloom, Jr., 85. Bloom passed away Sunday, June 1, in North Miami, FL, where he resided. From May 16, 1985, until May 24, 2005, Bloom served as North Miami’s Elected City Clerk. Bloom holds the distinction of being one of North Miami’s longest-serving Clerks, with four terms under his belt. A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, Bloom served as a JAG officer during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to civilian life, Bloom practiced law in the private sector before joining the Taurus Manufacturing team as the general counsel. He remained in this role for 35 years.
Bloom remained steadfast in his commitment to public service. After retiring, he became an educator. He also devoted his time to volunteerism, supporting fellow veterans and singing in the choir. He was especially proud of his volunteer service through Shake-A-Leg Miami, an organization devoted to empowering “individuals with disabilities through adaptive water sports” and more.
“Our former Elected City Clerk, Si Bloom, will be deeply missed,” said Alix Desulme, Ed.D., Mayor of North Miami. “As North Miami’s current mayor and former City Clerk, I am inspired by Mr. Bloom’s lifelong dedication to serving his community. As a city, we celebrate the life and legacy of a longtime North Miami resident who embodied the spirit of our community by spending his life and career giving back to others.”
