February 21, 2025
City of North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme, Ed.D., hosted ‘The Conversation’ on Friday, Feb. 21, at North Miami Senior High School. This powerful discussion, featuring award-winning actor, director, entrepreneur, and social justice advocate, Dr. Malik Yoba, provided nearly 200 students with an opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking dialogue about leadership, empowerment, and the intersection of arts and activism.
As part of the NoMi Music Festival and in celebration of Black History Month, this year’s conversation highlighted the national theme, "African Americans and Labor," focusing on the historical and ongoing contributions of Black workers in shaping industries, advancing social justice, and building economic strength.
Beyond the larger conversation, Dr. Yoba made a personal connection with the students, engaging them in discussions about their passions, aspirations, and future career paths. He encouraged them to pursue their dreams fearlessly, emphasizing the importance of hard work, self-belief, and perseverance. The students were not just listeners—they actively participated, asking insightful questions and gaining motivation to continue striving for greatness in their own journeys.
For nine years, the City of North Miami has hosted The Conversation as part of its commitment to fostering impactful dialogue that educate, inspire and empower future generations.
