Dynamic, effective and experienced public servant John Lorfils, MBA, FRA-RA, was appointed as the City of North Miami’s Interim Deputy City Manager in May 2024. A long-time City of North Miami employee, Lorfils joined the team in April 2012. In addition to his newest role, Lorfils continues to serve as North Miami’s Economic Development and Strategic Initiatives Director. 

As the City's Economic Development and Strategic Initiatives Director, Lorfils has shown a demonstrated knack for identifying growing industries and developing targeted strategies to support their expansion. In this capacity, he has played an integral role in attracting new investment opportunities for providers of goods and services that best serve the North Miami community. He has also organized outreach initiatives to assist existing businesses, while creating new job opportunities that drive economic growth and enhance the quality of life within the city. 

Through the years, Lorfils has demonstrated his commitment to serving the community in various capacities. He has worn the hats of the Assistant Director of Sanitation, Budget Analyst, Contract Compliance Manager and Sanitation Manager. 

John is a graduate of North Miami Senior High School, where he excelled at football. From Florida International University, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in marketing. He continued his education at FIU, earning an MBA. 

More recently, Lorfils earned the designation of FRA-RA, after completing the FRA Academy, with the Florida Redevelopment Agency. Additionally, he earned the designation of CP3P in March 2024, after completing a 12-month Public Private Partnership Program with the Association for the Improvement of American Infrastructure (AIAI). 

Lorfils is South Florida born and North Miami raised. His dedication to his community extends far beyond City Hall. As one of six children born parents who migrated from Haiti to the United States in the late 1970s, the importance of serving others and giving back to the community was instilled at an early age. He actively mentors youth and contributes to various local outreach initiatives in his free time.
