North Miami, FL September 16, 2022
This week in Haiti saw an increasing level of unrest resulting from the latest setback of a widespread gas shortage coupled with sky-rocking gas prices across the country. From blockages to looting, the people of the country are pushing back. As a result, local North Miami residents are expressing concern for their family members who are barricaded in homes and without essentials. North Miami Vice Mayor Alix Desulme, E.D., is fielding these calls and hearing constituent concerns.
“With the largest population of Haitian residents in South Florida, the City of North Miami is in solidarity with the people of Haiti,” Vice Mayor Desulme explained. “It is such times that we are reminded of the need of heightened action by the highest levels of U.S. government to help address the ongoing crisis in the country. It is a human rights issue, and we ask for solutions that will finally address the concerning and quite inhumane socio-economic state of affairs in Haiti.”
As the immediate past chairperson of National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON) and a longtime resident of North Miami, Vice Mayor Desulme continued by asking for peace in Haiti and imploring American leaders to dedicate resources to stopping the violence throughout the country.
