Councilman Kevin A. Burns, District 1

Kevin A. Burns was born and raised in North Miami, and comes from a family six siblings. Kevin is an accomplished business man famously known for operating KB`s Real Christmas Trees for the past 49 years, and is a successful real estate broker with One Sothebys international Realty. Kevin Burns was twice elected mayor of the City of North Miami and served from 2005 -2009 with distinction. Some of His greatest accomplishments while Mayor include the building and establishment of five new schools within the City of North Miami, modernizing the city’s IT department, and streamlining the building and zoning process.

Under His leadership, the City of North Miami was named an All American City in 2010 for numerous projects and green initiatives that Kevin established. One of His proudest accomplishments was establishing the Arch Creek Preserve, located at the East End of Northeast 135th St. This preserve was established to protect the neighborhood from becoming a thoroughfare to future development. Kevin has lived in the same home for the past 35 years with His husband of 40 years, Rob Flint, and their daughter, Autumn Hope Flint Burns, who currently attends Stetson University.

Kevin has been recognized and received numerous awards for His work with the US Conference of Mayors for His green building initiatives, streamlining of governmental procedures, and establishing several sister cities in Haiti. Kevin Burns was also awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Sinai University in Jerusalem for His work in promoting peace and understanding among the people of Israel and the United States. Kevin`s ability to build relationships among different groups goes back to the time when He was a cast member with Up with People, which is an international organization made up of students from around the world that He traveled with, promoting peace and understanding through community service and a high energy performance show around the world.

As the newly elected Councilman for District One, Kevin hopes to improve and modernize the building and zoning process, begin to work diligently on the critical infrastructure projects, and expedite the replacement of our aging water plant. While Kevin Burns is looking forward to some of the new development that needs to take place in North Miami, He also wants to protect the traditional neighborhoods from overdevelopment. Kevin was overwhelmingly elected with the support of his community, and looks forward to accomplishing many great things for the City of North Miami and It`s residents.
