Office of the Month
Officer Dinsdale Jackson
The North Miami Police Department’s “Officer of the Month” for February 2024 is Officer Dinsdale Jackson. Officer Jackson is assigned to the Afternoon Shift Uniform Patrol Section. He is being recognized for his outstanding performance during the following incident:
On February 26, 2024, at approximately 1310 hours, officers responded to the area of NE 4th Ave and 136 Street, in reference to a residential burglary. Upon arrival, the officers met with the victim, who advised that her ex-boyfriend, whom she currently has an active domestic violence injunction against, unlawfully entered her apartment. The victim advised that the subject showed up to her residence and when she refused to let him enter, he shattered the front window of the apartment with his fist. The victim advised that he entered the residence and violently pushed her face against the wall. He also caused the back of her head to hit a wall. Upon hearing that the victim called the police, the subject fled the scene to avoid apprehension. Officers responded, but the subject was gone.
Approximately two hours, the subject returned to the scene, but was unable to make entry into the apartment a second time. Fearing for her safety, the victim immediately contacted the police again, and Officer Jackson responded as a backup officer on the call. The victim was gathering her belongings to leave, as she no longer felt safe in her apartment. The victim advised Officer Jackson that the subject was watching them from a distance, waiting for them to leave, and making threats on Instagram. The victim stated that the subject assured her that the police could not “save” her. The victim provided Officer Jackson with a description of the subject’s vehicle. The officers waited for an Uber ride to take the victim away from the scene, as they wanted to assure that she was going to a safe location. Despite seeing the victim leave the area, Officer Jackson was not convinced that she would be safe, with the subject still roaming freely.
Officer Jackson's acute awareness of impending danger prompted him to ensure the victim's safe arrival at her destination. From a discreet distance, Officer Jackson began trailing the victim's Uber ride and observed the suspect's vehicle tailing closely behind. Acting swiftly, Officer Jackson initiated a traffic stop and swiftly identified the driver as the violent offender responsible for terrorizing the victim. Taking decisive action, Officer Jackson apprehended the suspect, delivering closure and resolution to the victim following the night's harrowing attacks.
Using his investigative skills, Officer Jackson discerned that the suspect exhibited recent bloodstains and several minor cuts on his right fist and forearm, consistent with the act of breaking a glass window, as previously described by the victim. Employing his interviewing skills, Officer Jackson established rapport with the suspect and elicited a confession, wherein the suspect admitted to sustaining his injuries during a confrontation with the victim. Post arrest, a search of the subject’s vehicle revealed a large amount of marijuana and money inside the cabin. There was a total of eight (8) large bags of marijuana located throughout the vehicle. The subject packaged the marijuana in weight denominations, which are consistent with street-level drug sales. In addition, officers found multiple QR codes on sticker sheets in the vehicle. When scanned, these QR codes take you to a website with a menu and instructions on how to order marijuana in different quantities. There was a total of $3,034.00 of U.S. currency that was located and seized.
Officer Dinsdale Jackson displayed North Miami Police Department’s Core Values of Courage, Empathy, and Professionalism during this incident. He was diligent and dedicated to prevent further harm to the victim. He was able to remove a dangerous felon from the streets, and due to his actions, street level drugs were also removed from circulation.
I am proud to recognize Officer Dinsdale Jackson for his actions on this case, and for potentially preventing a tragedy. Officer Jackson undoubtedly made a positive impact in this victim’s life.
