North Miami Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime and the City Council unanimously voted during Tuesday night’s council meeting, to induct former U.S. Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, the first Black person to represent Florida in Congress and a devoted activist for South Florida’s minority community, posthumously into the North Miami Citizen’s Hall of Fame. “Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek was more than just a pillar in our community, she was a trailblazer who paved the way for black leaders to thrive. I had the honor to work alongside the Congresswoman on behalf of the Haitian community during the political unrest related to the coup d’état in Haiti under the Clinton administration. We look forward to working with her family on commemorating the life and historical contributions that she has made in our community, “says Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime.
