Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime sends his Condolences to the Family of Carrie P. Meek, Pioneering Miami Congresswoman 

North Miami, FL – November 29, 2021

North Miami Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime sends his condolences to the family of Former U.S. Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, the first Black person to represent Florida in Congress and a dedicated advocate for South Florida’s Haitian immigrants and minority communities. Congresswoman Meek passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at her home in Miami. She was 95 years old.

“My family and I are terribly saddened by the news of Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek’s passing. She lived a long and exemplary life of service. Congresswoman Meek’s legacy will surely inpire many young leaders to continue in her footsteps. Her activism and passion to defend the human rights of Haitian immigrants as well as immigrants from other nationalities has paved the way for many to live a life of freedom in the United States. May her family find peace in knowing that Congresswoman Meek’s work will live on through the lives she has touched and impacted.”
