Michael Richards, Diaspora, and Caribbean Modernism with Rosie Gordon-Wallace, Erica Moiah James, and Franklin Sirmans
This exciting culminating public program for the retrospective Michael Richards: Are You Down? brings together three Miami-based luminaries—Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator (DVCAI) founder Rosie Gordon-Wallace, University of Miami Art and Art History Professor Erica Moiah James, Ph.D, and Perez Art Museum Miami Director, and Richards' friend, Franklin Sirmans.
This insightful conversation will consider Michael Richards’ artistic practice in the context of the Caribbean diaspora. The event will include a presentation by Professor James on "the political life of black ecstasy" through music in relation to Richards’ artwork and James’ scholarship on Caribbean Modernism.
