Deposits

Customers must apply in person with a government-issued identification card, and pay the required deposit at the customer service window at City Hall or with the North Miami Customer Service Center Cashier. Owners must provide proof of ownership. Tenants must provide a notarized letter of authorization from the property owner/agent. Service is generally connected to properties with existing meters within 24-hours. View and download the Deposit Application Form (PDF).

The City of North Miami requires that customers pay a refundable security deposit upon opening or re-establishing an account for water and/or sewer service. Accounts are not transferable. All outstanding unpaid bills from the same individual from a previous address must be paid in its entirety before a new application is accepted. The City of North Miami is not responsible for loss bills, and urges customers to contact the Utility Billing Division for duplicate bills or account balances if a bill is not received.

The security deposit is refunded to the customer only if it exceeds the amount on the final closing bill. It is the customer’s responsibility to notify the City of North Miami when the service is no longer required and may be terminated.

Acceptable Proof of Ownership

Recorded Warranty or Quit Deed, Certificate of Title or Settlement Statement - with signatures of both the buyer and the seller.

Notarized Owner Approval Letter

A notarized approval from the owner is required with the application under the following circumstances:

  • If property is owned by a company (ensure that the signee is listed on Sunbiz business registration documents)
  • If the authorization notice is written on a company's letterhead
  • If the authorization letter is accompanied by the signee's ID or business card
  • If the account is being opened by a tenant
