WHO DO I CALL FOR ANIMAL CONTROL?
Call Tami Malis, Code Enforcement Officer - Animal Control at 305.895.9870 Ext.14014, email animalcontrol@northmiamifl.gov. For urgent animal concerns overnights and weekends, call 311 for Miami-Dade county Animal Services.

WHY DOES MY PET HAVE TO HAVE RABIES VACCINE?
It is a state law. Every dog and cat over 4 months of age has to be vaccinated for rabies every 1 or 3 years.  Dogs are also required to wear a Miami-Dade County rabies tag on their collar.

HOW MANY DOGS AM I ALLOWED TO HAVE IN MY HOUSEHOLD?
No more than four dogs are allowed per household.

AM I ALLOWED TO HAVE A PITBULL?
It is against the law to have or own a pit bull dog in North Miami and all of Miami-Dade County.  This includes Staffordshire Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers and dogs that conform to one of these breeds.

AM I REQUIRED TO CONTAIN MY ANIMALS?
It is against the law to allow your dog to run loose.  When off of your private property, dogs must be leashed.  There is no leash law for cats, but they are much safer when confined to private property as well.  Loose animals can be stolen or killed by cars, cause auto accidents or injury from bites, or cause property damage and general nuisances to other residents.

SHOULD I HAVE MY PET SPAYED OR NEUTERED?
YES! Getting pets “fixed” makes them healthier and happier, prevents some health problems, and decreases the numbers of homeless pets.  Call Miami-Dade County 311 for information on free and low-cost programs.

IS MY NEIGHBOR ALLOWED TO KEEP THAT NOISY ROOSTER?
No. It is against the law to keep ANY chickens (hens and roosters) or other farm animals in North Miami.

WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT ALL THESE CATS?
There is no leash law for cats.  However, cat owners are encouraged to keep their cats safely indoors.  It is against the law to feed stray cats anywhere but on your own private property. Call City of North Miami Animal Control for more information on stray cats.

I CAN'T KEEP MY PET ANYMORE - WHAT DO I DO?
Do not just leave it behind or “set it free”.  It is not only unfair to the animals—it is against the law.  You can take your pet to an animal shelter if you cannot find it a home.  This includes bird, reptiles, etc.  Call the City of North Miami Animal Control for more information or assistance.
