The Past, Present and Future Bridged in Ceremony 

On the evening of May 23, 2013, the city of North Miami honored the past, celebrated the present and prepared the future with a ceremony that payed tribute to trailblazers in South Florida’s Haitian community. The event took place in the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Paradise Courtyard.

The City was proud to recognize Reverend Dr. Jean Fritz Bazin, Roger Biamby, North Miami Beach Councilman Philippe Derose, Micheline Ducena, Rulx Jean-Bart, Henry Robert Lamoth, and Jean Baptiste Oba for their work to establish the Haitian community in south Florida. Talented performer, Gelan Lambert, was presented with the Key to the city by Mayor Andre D. Pierre. Gelan, chased his dream from North Miami to Broadway. He is currently on tour Fela! the musical.

The event was catered by the Haitian Culinary Alliance, with performances by a cappella group Sardonyx and jazz musician Karl Fontaine
