North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre, Esq. and Vice Mayor Marie Erlande Steril, MSW are hosting a Celebration of Women in honor of National Women's History Month – Thursday, March 28. The event will salute outstanding women in the community for their service and leadership.National Women's History Month emerged from two significant events in history; the women's movement of the 1960's and the advocacy of female historians who demanded the inclusion of women in American history books.   During the month of March, women from all walks of life are celebrated throughout the United States for their contributions throughout our nation's history.North Miami's event will honor several women for their contributions in a variety of fields, from the Arts and Entertainment to Youth Empowerment.

The following are the 2013 honorees:

  • Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson - Federal
  • Representative Daphne Campbell - State
  • Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones - Municipality
  • Commissioner Audrey Edmonson – County
  • Lucie Tondreau – Community Spirit
  • Loreen Chant - Education
  • Pastor Mireille Simon – Faith-based Community
  • Dr. Marie Etienne – Health and Human Services
  • Karen André, Esq. - Volunteerism
  • Marie Jo Toussaint, Esq. – Community Builder
