North Miami, FL – 12/12/2012

The City of North Miami has named Maurice LaGuerre, Recreation Leader II from the Parks and Recreation Department as Employee of the Quarter for Summer 2012.

Maurice LaGuerre was nominated by his supervisors for his dedication and innovative ideas to expand current programming as well as attract teens and young adults into the community center that he supervises.  He began working for the Parks and Recreation Department in September 1991 as a bus driver and camp counselor for the summer camp programs and over time was promoted to Recreation Leader II, overseeing the Sunkist Grove Community Center.  He has worked hard to engage the community, especially those that live in the neighborhood surrounding the center.

“Maurice continues to work with a positive attitude and is always willing to lend a helping hand with special events or other programs,” explains Annalisa Walker.   In addition to the recreation programs at the center, Maurice is an integral part of the success of the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which offers free tax assistance to the community each year.

Maurice was presented with a plaque at the November 13th City Council meeting and a $100 savings bond.  He was also treated to a luncheon sponsored by Florida International University’s School of Hospitality Management at Biscayne Bay Campus.
