North Miami, FL – 11/7/2012

Oleta Partners, in partnership with the Millennium Investment Group of North Miami (MIGNM) and the City of North Miami, recently held a job fair at The Oaks Sales Center at Biscayne Landing.  The event, held on October 27th, attracted over 900 people to register for a potential 300 job openings to be offered at the development site, formerly known as Biscayne Landing, beginning in January. The site encompasses over 183 acres of undeveloped land in the northeastern section of North Miami.

The job fair was open exclusively to North Miami residents.  “What we witnessed Saturday is evidence of the need that exists in this city for a project like Biscayne Landing to be aggressive in employing as many residents of North Miami as possible,” explained Herb Tillman, Executive Vice President of Swerdlow Group. “We will work diligently with our partners at Millennium, at the City of North Miami, and the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) to ensure that this project really makes a large impact in putting North Miami residents back to work.”

There is a wide variety of positions being offered at the site, including receptionist, project administrator, cleaning crews, security officer, truck drivers, draftsman, Geotechnical Engineer and Wetland Field Technicians. Job seekers voiced their hope for the future which CRA Coordinator, Mr. Lesly Prudent described, “This Job Fair is a great start to a project that will have a positive effect on our community.  So many of our residents are looking for work and are excited about the promises that this development holds for their future.”

To that end, The Urban Construction Crafts Academy will be conducting specified vocational training in areas such as plumbing, electrical, air conditioning and carpentry. This will enable a larger portion of residents to qualify for a number of construction positions that will be offered in the near future, explained the Academy’s President, Bill Dozier, “This practical approach to filling job slots was an initiative that resulted from the Biscayne Landing agreement, which Mayor Pierre insisted on to guarantee new jobs specifically for his constituents.”

Summing up the fair’s busy afternoon, “It was a success!” proclaimed Mr. Jean Cherubin, Vice President of the Millennium Investment Group.  “The community responded to the invitation for the job fair. We now have to work to make sure that the development proceeds as scheduled so that we can put people back to work right here in our community.”
