THE CITY OF NORTH MIAMI AND THE NMCRA TO BREAK GROUND ON HISTORIC IRONS MANOR FOUNTAIN RESTORATION P

North Miami, FL – 11/13/2018

The community is invited to join the city of North Miami and the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (NMCRA) for a Groundbreaking Ceremony commemorating the restoration of the Historic Irons Manor Fountain.

North Miami Mayor, Dr. Smith Joseph advocated for the restoration of the Iron’s Manor Fountain, which is also known as Pioneer Fountain.  In November 2015, the Miami-Dade County Historic Preservation Board unanimously approved the designation of the fountain as a historic landmark. The 93-year-old fountain, built with native Oolitic limestone rock, is located at the intersection of West Dixie Highway, at NE 132nd Street, and NE 9th Avenue. It predates the incorporation of the city of North Miami. The fountain is historically significant for its Florida vernacular style, which reflects the pattern of early development in North Miami, centered around public art and placemaking.  It was erected by developer, V. Earl Irons in 1925, to dually serve as a prominent public art feature and a navigational aid.

Restoration of the Irons Manor Fountain will be funded by the NMCRA. For more information about this event or the restoration project, contact the City of North Miami’s Community Planning and Development Department at 305-895-9825.
