The city of North Miami invites you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at our free family-friendly events and activities focused on Latino culture, history, traditions, cuisine, music, art and more!    

The City of North Miami’s 2018 Hispanic Heritage Month Committee will kick-off the celebration today with an art unveiling showcasing the work of notable Cuban-American muralist and innovator of Postmodern Cartoon Expressionism, David “Lebo” LeBatard.  North Miami’s Mayor and Council will recognize LeBatard with a proclamation during the special presentations at the City Council Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 12. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the North Miami City Hall, Council Chamber, located at 776 NE 125th Street, North Miami. At 6 p.m., light refreshments with a Latino flair will be served prior to the meeting. The reception is sponsored by El Kiosko.  

Thursday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m., the North Miami Public Library invites you to bring your loved ones and friends to a Meet and Greet with award winning Puerto Rican Author and Illustrator in residence, Lulu Delacre. The NoMi Library will host Delacre’s launch of the first picture book biography of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The first 50 families to arrive at the event will receive a free autographed book, written by Delacre. Books also will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served.   

Network over lunch with local business professionals at the Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 11:30 a.m. Gain insight from Latino business leaders during a panel discussion titled, “Latin Americans Doing Business in South Florida.” The discussion will be led by German Grundy, of Miami Grande Realtors. Panelists include Maria-Renee Davila, CEO of the Global Trade Chamber; Al Otero, President of the Global Trade Chamber; and Luis Derosa President of the South Florida Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce. Come dressed in all white for the White Tropical Nights Reception on Friday, Sept. 28, in the MOCA Courtyard. Guests will mingle with Latin Grammy Award Winner Nestor Torres, before he takes the stage as the evening’s Jazz At MOCA performer. Entry is free for MOCA Members and North Miami residents. General Admission is $10 per person, and will benefit the Friends of the North Miami Public Library and MOCA’s After School Teen Program. Tickets are available for purchase at The reception will begin at 6 p.m. at MOCA, located at 770 NE 125th Street. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. in the North Miami Police Plaza, located at 700 NE 124th Street, North Miami.     

North Miami’s 5th Annual La Gran Fiesta will take place Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m., at MOCA Plaza. La Gran Fiesta will be hosted by nationally acclaimed radio personality, Enrique Santos, and will feature live musical performances by Xperimento, a bilingual, multi-cultural band that brings crowds to the dancefloor by blending world sounds. This free festival under the stars also will feature non-stop Latin and Spanish dancing, folkloric performances, games, Latin culinary flavors, giveaways and more.
