Larry Juriga will be sworn-in as the North Miami Police Department’s (NMPD) new Chief during a ceremony at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, at Barry University’s, Broad Center for the Performing Arts, located at 11300 NE 2nd Ave., Miami Shores.  Juriga, a North Miami native and 24-year NMPD veteran, was appointed Chief of Police on Thursday, March 1.   

In 1987, Juriga began his City of North Miami career in the Parks and Recreation Department.  He joined the NMPD’s Uniform Patrol Section in 1994. Juriga transitioned to the General Investigations Unit in 1997, handling major criminal cases as a detective. In 1998, Juriga joined NMPD’s S.W.A.T. team. 

Juriga is a member of the Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Juriga holds a Bachelor’s of Criminal Justice from Barry University and a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University.
