North Miami, FL – 11/8/2017

District 2 Councilwoman Carol Keys and District 3 Councilman Philippe Bien-Aime will host a public workshop on the City of North Miami’s Housing Improvement Program on Thursday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m.

The Housing Improvement Program assists eligible residents with roof repairs, installation of hurricane impact windows, replacement of exterior doors, driveway improvements, replacement of deteriorated fascia soffits and gutters, exterior painting and minor landscape improvements. The 2017 City of North Miami Housing Improvement Program is a repair and rehabilitation grant established to address aging and deteriorating homes in districts 2 and 3.  This program is funded through the City of North Miami’s general fund and the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).

“Hurricane Irma swept through our City leaving behind flooded streets, downed powerlines, uprooted trees, infrastructure damage and complete darkness in parts of our City,” said Councilwoman Keys, whose district  includes coastal communities. “Residents can apply for these funds to receive much needed relief following this devastating storm in our City.”
“Parts of District 3 are considered Special Flood Hazard Areas, which means my district is prone to flooding,” said Councilman Bien-Aime. “Residents faced severe damage to their homes. In some cases, homeowners insurance or FEMA assistance may not be enough to cover the cost of repairs.”

In the 2017-2018 budgets, the North Miami City Council and the CRA Board allocated $1,040,000 to home improvement projects in the City of North Miami. Councilwoman Keys and Councilman Bien-Aime each allotted $250,000 for District 2 and 3 Residents. Funding will be offered on a first come, first served and first qualified basis. Residents in districts 2 and 3 interested in applying for assistance must attend Thursday’s workshop for prequalification instructions and to receive the application.  For more information about the 2017 City of North Miami Housing Improvement Program, call 305-893-6511, ext. 19010 or visit
