STATUS REPORT #7 FROM THE CITY OF NORTH MIAMI IN PREPARATION FOR THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANE IRMA

North Miami, FL – 9/10/2017

The City of North Miami would like to inform the public of the following impact on services due to Hurricane Irma:
  • A curfew has been implemented in North Miami effective Sunday, September 10, at 7 p.m. until 7 a.m., Monday, September 11.
  • City of North Miami administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 11 and Tuesday, September 12.
  • All City events, meetings and programs are cancelled until further notice.
  • The North Miami Public Library, located at 835 NE 132 Street, will close on Monday, September 11, 2017 and Tuesday, September 12, 2017.
  • All North Miami Parks and Recreation Department programs, activities, and facilities will be closed until further notice. Please contact the Administrative Office for updates at 305-895-9840.
  • The Museum of Contemporary Art, located at 770 NE 125 Street, will be closed on Monday, September 11, 2017 and Tuesday, September 12, 2017. All MOCA events are cancelled for the duration of the week.
  • The City of North Miami’s first Budget Hearing scheduled for Monday, September 11, to adopt a millage rate and budget, is being rescheduled due to Hurricane Irma. In the coming weeks, proper notice will be given regarding the rescheduled budget hearing date.
  • Regular bulk, recycling and garbage pickup is not operating on schedule. Continue monitoring the North Miami INFO Line for updates. Safety Tips.
  • To report damage caused by city-owned trees, water main breaks, or other urgent city-related matters, contact the North Miami Emergency Operations Center at 305-893-6511.
  • Stay alert for extended rainfall and subsequent flooding even after the hurricane or tropical storm has ended.
  • If you evacuated, return home only when officials say it is safe.
  • Drive only if necessary and avoid flooded roads and washed out bridges.
  • Keep away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to Florida, Power and Light (FPL) 1-800-4-OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243). 
  • Avoid walking in standing water and stay out of any building that has water around it. 
  • Use flashlights in the dark. Do NOT use candles. 
  • Check refrigerated food for spoilage. If in doubt, throw it out.
  • Wear protective clothing and be cautious when cleaning up to avoid injury.
  • Watch animals closely and keep them under your direct control. 
  • Avoid driving after sundown, until electrical power is restored.
