STATUS REPORT #4 FROM THE CITY OF NORTH MIAMI IN PREPARATION FOR HURRICANE IRMA

The North Miami
Division of Emergency Management is currently monitoring Hurricane Irma, Jose
and Katia. The city of North Miami would like to inform the public of the
following in preparation for the possible arrival of
Hurricane Irma:
- Miami-Dade
County issued a mandatory evacuation order for all mobile homes, all of Zone
A, the Barrier Islands, and parts of Zone B, which include:
- Bal Harbour
- Bay Harbour
Islands
- Golden Beach
- Indian Creek
Village
- Miami Beach
- North Bay Village
- Sunny Isles
Beach
- Surfside

County has opened the following shelters:

Bus Pickup Site
- Effective
immediately, regular garbage pick-up for Friday, September 8, 2017 has been cancelled.
- Regularly
scheduled bulk pick-up for Friday, September
8, 2017 will continue as usual.
- Recycling
service has been cancelled for Saturday, September 9, 2017.
- The North Miami
Express Shuttle Bus will suspend transit services on Friday, September 8, 2017.

- The City of
North Miami’s sandbag distribution operation ended as of Thursday, September 7,
2017.
- City of North Miami administrative offices are closed
Thursday-Friday September 7-8, 2017.
- All City events, meetings and programs
are cancelled through Monday, September 11, 2017.
- The North Miami Public Library,
located at 835 NE 132 Street, will close Thursday- Saturday, September 7-9,
2017, in order to prepare for the storm’s arrival.
- All North Miami Parks and Recreation
Department programs, parks, activities, and rentals have been cancelled through
Monday, September 11, 2017.
- The Museum of Contemporary Art
(located at 770 NE 125 Street) will close Thursday-Sunday,
September 7-10, 2017.
- DO NOT TRIM TREES at this time. Tree trimmings can
become dangerous projectiles and the North Miami Public Works Department will
not have the time or resources to schedule additional garbage or trash pick-ups
throughout the City.
- All residents and business owners are to
secure all loose objects indoors.
- Construction materials are to be
secured. Sheds must be tied down.
- All dumpsters and port-o-lets must
either be removed from the city of North Miami or securely covered and tied
down.
- Catch basins: Residents living
near catch basins are strongly encouraged to clear them of leaves and other
debris.
- The Miami-Dade Emergency Operation
Center (EOC) has been activated and evacuations have begun for the at risk
population who registered for through the Emergency & Evacuation Assistance
Program (EEAP). If you know of someone who is elderly, handicapped or has a
medical condition that will prevent them from evacuating, please have them call
3-1-1.
