On July 7, 2017, Larry Juriga was appointed Interim Police Chief after serving as Acting Police Chief since May 5, of the North Miami Police Department (NMPD). North Miami City Manager, Larry M. Spring, Jr., appointed Juriga after parting professional ties with former Chief Gary C. Eugene on July 7.    

“I have complete confidence in the talent amongst our current NMPD leadership,” said Spring. “I am committed to ensuring all options are explored in selecting a Police Chief to meet the needs of our community. For this reason, we will conduct a nationwide search for the most suitable candidate.”                           

Interim Chief Juriga joined the NMPD in 1994, as a patrol officer, and moved through the ranks over the last 23 years. He was subsequently appointed to Assistant Chief of the NMPD in 2010. Born and raised in North Miami, Interim Chief Juriga hails from a family of law enforcement officers. Juriga holds a Bachelor’s of Criminal Justice from Barry University and a Master of Public Administration from Florida International University.   

The NMPD will continue its mission of providing professional, efficient, and courteous public service by creating a safer environment, while improving the quality of life for the residents in the city of North Miami.
