North Miami, FL – 6/1/2017

Books galore, enrichment activities, special guests and prizes are in store for youth participating in the North Miami Public Library’s 2017 Summer Reading Program, themed “Build a Better World.”

This year’s Summer Reading Program runs from June 1 – Aug. 12. The program is designed to prevent summer learning loss by creating the opportunity for youth to read books of their choosing at their leisure. The array of supplemental programs intend to encourage youngsters to explore new interests, while developing a love of recreational reading.

NoMi Library offers opportunities for the entire family to participate. Young readers, up to age 18, must first register in-person. Then, all library visits are automatically logged when computers are used or books are barrowed, making readers eligible for prizes at the end of the summer. Parents, guardians and camp leaders can become volunteer readers for pre-reading stage children.

At the end of the summer, NoMi Library staff will announce the winners at the annual Grand Finale Family Fun Day. Summer Reading participants will be entered into drawings for age-appropriate prizes, including an Apple Watch, a LeapFrog LeapPad or a basket filled with books and toys.

Family Fun Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at the NoMi Library, located at 835 NE 132nd Street, North Miami. This event is free and open to all. It will include food, music, story time and visits by Clifford the Big Red Dog, Pete the Cat and more.

Summer Reading Program registration is available at the NoMi Library from June 1 -  Aug. 11 during regular business hours.
