Beginning Wednesday, March 29, the city of North Miami will host the Republic of Haiti's first lady, Martine Moise, the city’s guest of honor in its 2017 Women’s History Month Celebration.   

North Miami Mayor, Dr. Smith Joseph, D.O., Pharm.D., will present Moise with a key to the city during a ceremony held on Wednesday, March 29 at 1 p.m. in the city's council chambers, located at 776 NE 125th St.  

Thursday, March 30, at 11:30 a.m., the city will host the “Women Who Inspire” Luncheon, honoring Moise. Moise will provide remarks to an audience of state and local officials. This event will take place at the Joe Celestin Center, located at 1525 NW 135th St. Invitations are required upon entry.   

District 4 Councilman Alix Desulme, selected Moise for her dedicated service to the people of Haiti, specifically Haitian women; though, her service began long before her husband, His Excellency, President Jovenel Moise, took office in February 2017. Desulme also serves as host of the city of North Miami’s “Women Who Inspire” events.   

Friday, March 31, at 6 p.m. in MOCA’s Paradise Courtyard,16 notable women who serve South Florida will also be recognized and presented with plaques at the “Women Who Inspire” Closing Reception. Each honoree was selected by the city of North Miami’s mayor and council for outstanding humanitarian work and leadership. The MOCA Paradise Courtyard is located at 770 NE 125 St. This event is free and open to the public on a first come, first served basis. RSVP is required.   

“While our appreciation is present year-round, Women’s History Month is our time of reflection -- for the city of North Miami to pay homage to women making a difference all throughout South Florida and internationally,” said Desulme. “It is truly a privilege to honor first lady Moise during her visit. In fact, we’re proud to celebrate the contributions of highly esteemed “women who inspire” in the fields of law, education, the non-profit sector – the list goes on.”   

This year’s Women’s History Month celebration will conclude with the monthly Jazz at MOCA concert, featuring singer, Karina Iglesias. Iglesias is among the 2017 “Women Who Inspire” honorees. In 2013, Iglesias, a Miami native, was a finalist on NBC’s “The Voice”. Jazz at MOCA will take place Friday at 8 p.m. in the MOCA Plaza, located at ​770 NE 125 St. This free event is open to the public.
