U.S. MAYORS MEET ON JOB CREATION, FORECLOSURES, PUBLIC SAFETY AT U.S. CONFERENCE OF MAYORS THIS WEEK

North Miami, FL – 1/18/2012

North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre, Esq. Participating in Conference

The 80th Winter Meeting of The U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) is convening this week at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. More than 250 of the nation’s mayors, including North Miami’s Mayor Andre D. Pierre, Esq., will meet with Administration officials to push for a bipartisan agenda that confronts the double-digit unemployment plaguing much of U.S. today. The mayors will also challenge Congress to act on job creation, transportation and public safety.

The USCM will also express disappointment that Washington is not listening to the needs of the nation's Metro regions, which have thus far been absent from the presidential debates. Highlighting the session will be the release of an economic report with 2012 employment forecasts, followed by an official address from USCM President Mayor Villaraigosa (Los Angeles, CA) on The State of America’s Cities, and then a reception at the White House.

The USCM Immigration Reform Task Force plans to meet this morning to discuss options for positive immigration reform and the economic benefits that it has on communities and local businesses. Mayor Pierre serves as Vice Chair of this Task Force.

For more information on Mayor Pierre’s participation in the USCM, please contact the Office of the Mayor and City Council at 305-895-9815 or 305-895-9818.
