LAUREN BOOK TO BE HONORED WITH KEY TO CITY FOR HER WORK TO PREVENT CHILHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE

North Miami, FL – 1/18/2012

Lauren Book was a victim of sexual abuse at a young age at the hands of her nanny. She has worked hard to turn her horrific childhood experiences into positive changes to prevent future cases of abuse. She established Lauren’s Kids, a 501(c)(3) organization in December 2007, to carry out the mission of educating adults and children about sexual abuse topics through in-school curriculum, a 24-hour crisis hotline and speaking engagements around the country. Through her organization, she urges children that “it’s o.k. to tell” if they have been victimized.

For the last three years, she has hosted a 39-mile “Walk in My Shoes” event across the state of Florida. The event is meant to raise awareness and promote positive legislation.

On Saturday, January 21st, North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre will honor Lauren Book with a key to the city for her tireless efforts to combat childhood sexual abuse when the Walk in My Shoes makes a stop at Aventura Mall. The formal program will take place at 8 a.m. in the parking lot North of Macy’s (White Parking Lot.)

For more information on the presentation, please contact the North Miami Office of the Mayor and City Council at 305-895-9815.
