STATUS REPORT FROM THE CITY OF NORTH MIAMI IN PREPARATION FOR HURRICANE MATTHEW

North Miami, FL – 10/5/2016

The city of North Miami would like to inform the public of the following in preparation for the possible arrival of Hurricane Matthew: 

  • City of North Miami administrative offices will remain open until 2:00 p.m. today, but will be closed on Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7, 2016. Stay tune for updates.    
  •  All City events, meetings and programs are cancelled beginning today, October 5, 2016, through Saturday, October 8, 2016.     
  • The North Miami Public Library, located at 835 NE 132 Street, will remain open until 5:00 p.m. today. The Library will be closed on Thursday, October 6, 2016 and Friday October 7, 2016, in order to prepare for the storm’s arrival.  The Library will reopen at the earliest possible chance once the storm has passed and the facility has been prepared to re-open to the public.   
  • All North Miami Parks and Recreation Department programs have been cancelled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 7, 2016.     
  • The Museum of Contemporary Art (located at 770 NE 125 Street) will remain open until 2:00 p.m. today, and will close to the public on Thursday, October 6, 2016 and October 7, 2016.     
  • DO NOT TRIM TREES at this time.  Tree trimmings can become dangerous projectiles and the North Miami Public Works Department will not have the time or resources to schedule additional garbage or trash pick-ups throughout the City.    
  • Regular Sanitation service will proceed as usual for today, October 5, 2016.  Sanitation service will be cancelled on Thursday and Friday, October 6-7, 2016.   
  • Recycling service has been cancelled and will resume on Saturday, October 8, 2016.     
  • All residents and business owners are to secure all loose objects indoors.     
  • Construction materials are to be secured. Sheds must be tied down.    
  • All dumpsters and port-o-lets must either be removed from the city of North Miami or securely covered and tied down.     
  • Catch basins:  Residents living near catch basins are strongly encouraged to clear them of leaves and other debris.    
  • Sand bags (maximum of 6 per resident) are available for North Miami residents at the North Miami Motor Pool, 1855 NE 142 Street until 8:00 PM today. Entrance on 143 ST.
