Press Conference

Last night, Mayor Smith Joseph presented an emergency resolution before the council meeting. The Mayor and City Council unanimously passed the resolution urging other Florida municipalities, counties, and the United States Conference of Mayors to join the City in requesting that the Obama Administration reconsider its recent policy to deport thousands of Haitians currently living in the United States (Resolution attached). Today at 10:00 a.m., Mayor Smith Joseph, who introduced the resolution, will hold a press conference encouraging other cities to pass similarly strong resolutions.

Dr. Smith Joseph is a licensed practicing physician and has managed a successful medical practice in the city of North Miami for the past 14 years, in addition to being the Mayor of the city of North Miami.  Dr. Joseph’s leadership prowess has been in providing community service and opportunity for his constituents.  He provides annual free clinics to the elderly, internship opportunities to the youth, and serves on several boards in North Miami while managing his medical clinic, Universal Medical Centre.  Dr. Joseph organized and led a march for Trayvon Martin in Miami-Dade County in March 2012, organized an earthquake relief in Haiti in 2010 and has participated in multiple medical missions in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.  

Dr. Joseph speaks 4 (four) languages fluently: English, French, Spanish and Creole.  He earned his associate degree from Miami Dade College and later earned a doctorate in pharmacy from FAMU (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University). Dr. Joseph is a proud Rattler.  Thereafter, Dr. Joseph earned a doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Grady Memorial Hospital/Morehouse School of Medicine, in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Joseph has received many awards and distinguished recognition, including being inducted into the Miami-Dade College Hall of Fame in 2009, Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges, and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
