NORTH MIAMI WELCOMES SHANGHAI DELEGATION
North Miami, FL – 7/20/2016
Shanghai Delegation will
tour North Miami’s Chinatown Cultural Arts and Innovation District
Today, North Miami will
welcome its first delegation from China. Back in February, the North Miami City
Council unanimously approved a resolution championed by Vice Mayor Alix Desulme
designating 15 blocks along Northwest 7th Avenue between Northwest 119th Street
to Northwest 135th Street as a Chinatown Cultural Arts and Innovation
District. The delegation from Shanghai arrived Tuesday night and today will
be traveling throughout North Miami for tours, presentations, and a cultural
experience through one of the most diverse cities in Miami-Dade County. The
itinerary includes a morning presentation from senior City staff, lunch meeting
with representatives from SoLē Mia Miami, tour of the designated Chinatown
Cultural Arts and Innovation District and a private reception. This visit
from the Shanghai Delegation materialized after North Miami officials traveled
to China back in May to encourage Chinese companies to consider economic
development opportunities in North Miami. The twelve-member delegation consist
of business leaders, investors, and realtors seeking investment opportunities
in the City.
“North Miami hosting a
delegation from Shanghai is another major milestone as we work earnestly to
develop international relations in support of the development of the first
official Chinatown Cultural Arts and Innovation District in South Florida. This
will not only contribute to the City’s economic blueprint but will also attract
tourism. I am excited about seeing the legislative initiative evolve to
tangible results” said North Miami City Manager Larry M. Spring, Jr.
