GARY EUGENE APPOINTED AS CHIEF OF NORTH MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT

North Miami, FL – 6/16/2016

Gary Eugene has been selected to fill the position of Chief of Police of the North Miami Police Department. North Miami City Manager Larry M. Spring made the decision to appoint Eugene as Chief effective today. “While the selection process was completed internally, and all applicants had overall credentials, Chief Eugene’s experience, knowledge, and perspective on community policing stood out the most. I have full confidence that Chief Eugene will continue to move the department forward and I am pleased to be working alongside a former colleague from the City of Miami” said City Manager Larry Spring.

Chief Eugene has dedicated more than 30 years of reputable service in law enforcement, which has allowed him to gain the expertise in management, as well as strategic planning and implementation skills, in the various roles he has held within the field.  He joined the North Miami Police Department in 2013 after retiring from the City of Miami as a Police Major. He was subsequently appointed to Assistant Chief of the North Miami Police Department Field Operations Division in December 2015, overseeing the Uniform Patrol Section and the Uniform Support Section.

Prior to joining the North Miami Police Department, Chief Eugene dedicated twenty seven years of service to the City of Miami, where he last held the rank of Commander, overseeing the emergency operations of the Communications Section. Chief Eugene was the first Haitian-born Lieutenant and Commander in the history of the City of Miami. Chief Eugene holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Barry University and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University.
