April 22nd is Earth Day and while great advances have been made in the overall dialogue on sustainability, local actions and involvement are necessary catalysts for implementing real change. The City is kicking-off Earth Day celebrations on Saturday, April 16th with a Go Green & Clean-up North Miami event! Come out and enjoy a fun-packed day while making the city of North Miami a greener place to live, work and play. Volunteers are needed at both the Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park, 1725 NE 135 Street and the Joe Celestin Center, 1525 NW 135 Street from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for tidying and gardening throughout the parks. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.   

After the clean-up, join Councilwoman Carol Keys, Esq. at Griffing Park, located on the corner of NE 123 Street & West Dixie Highway, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the Green Awareness Fair. The event will gather local vendors as they provide services for electronic waste recycling, education on proper hazardous waste disposal and sustainable conservation practices.   

The North Miami Public Library is celebrating Earth Day by inviting students in 3rd-12th grade to participate in an Art and Poetry Contest for a chance to win over $1,000 in cash prizes.
