North Miami, FL – 3/9/2012

North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre, Esq. and Councilwoman Marie Erlande Steril are hosting a Celebration of Women in honor of National Women's History Month. The event will salute outstanding women in the community for their service and leadership.

National Women's History Month emerged from two significant events in history; the women's movement of the 1960's and the advocacy of female historians who demanded the inclusion of women in American history books. During the month of March, women from all walks of life are celebrated throughout the United States for their contributions throughout our nation's history.

North Miami's event will honor several women for their contributions in a variety of fields, including Art and Entertainment, Community spirit, Education, Faith-based community, Government, Social Services, Volunteerism, Youth Empowerment, and Community relations.

The Celebration of Women event is open to the public and will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) courtyard, 770 NE 125 Street, on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 6 p.m.

Those interested in attending should RSVP to the North Miami Office of the Mayor and City Council at 305-895-9815.
