NORTH MIAMI’S CALL FOR IDEAS STUDENT CIVIC SPACE DESIGN COMPETITION WRAPS UP THIS WEEK

North Miami, FL – 6/11/2014

In an effort to tap in to the talent at South Florida’s colleges and universities, the city of North Miami launched a Call for Ideas competition last month to solicit landscape and architectural design ideas for civic spaces in the City’s downtown. The student design competition parallel’s North Miami’s downtown revitalization efforts, spearheaded by the Community Planning and Development Department and championed by the North Miami City Council. The winner will enjoy a paid internship with The Corradino Group.

The Call for Ideas competition solicits ideas from university students in Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Design and Architectural Design.  To date, submittals have been received from students of Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Florida International University (FIU) and the University of Miami (UM). Students use Photoshop and architectural software to redesign an existing civic space using urban planning and architectural design ideas to create new spaces.  The deadline for submittal is this Friday, June 13th.  All entries must be in by 2 p.m.

Students have the choice to submit their proposal digitally via e-mail at kwalia@northmiamifl.gov or they can provide a hard copy mounted on to foam core board at the Downtown Revitalization Forum tomorrow evening (Thursday, June 12th) at the Joe Celestin Center, located at 1525 NW 135 ST, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.   More details and guidelines on the Call for Ideas competition can be found under “NoMi Highlights” on the City’s website at northmiamifl.gov.
