Ribbon Cutting for Joe Celestin Center, located at 1525 NW 135 Street, at 6 p.m.

North Miami, FL – August 2, 2012 – The city of North Miami will dedicate the long-anticipated Joe Celestin Center today, (Thursday, August 2, 2012) at 6 p.m. The 20,000 square foot recreation center is located on the western portion of Claude Pepper Park, at 1525 NW 135 Street. The center is named after Joe Celestin, who served as Mayor of North Miami from 2001 - 2005.

The Joe Celestin Center is funded by Miami-Dade County’s Building Better Communities General Obligation Bond. The project cost is approximately $9.2 million.

Another addition to the facility is the City’s first Art in Public Places project. Created by artist, Addonis Parker, a large scale mural entitled “I Dream to See” is a part of the center’s exterior wall facing west. A smaller scale painting can be found inside the center.

The recreation center and mural will be dedicated by City officials via a ribbon cutting this evening, Thursday, August 2, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at Joe Celestin Center, 1525 NW 135 ST. The ribbon cutting will take place PRIOR TO the formal program, which begins at 6:15 p.m.
