Animals

Animal Control - City Code 4-7 to 25

  • No animal in the city may run at large
  • No animal may disturb the peace of any person
  • Not allowed to keep more than 4 dogs over 3 months old
  • Failure to have rabies vaccine on a dog or cat
  • Failure to use a lash or harness
  • Failure to remove or properly dispose of fecal matter

A violation of the City Code for the listed animal offense is a $100.00 Civil Fine per occurrence. Ongoing and repeated violations maybe fined.

Exterior Appearance

Exterior of Residents - City Code 5-19, 31, 45, 46, 47

  • All Fences and exterior structures shall be kept clean
    All Fences and exterior structures shall be in working condition
  • Al exterior surfaces of all structures shall be painted
    All exterior surfaces shall be free of deterioration or peeling
  • Addresses must be displayed on front of a structure and in the rear when required (properties on a canal)

A violation of the City Code for exterior appearance is a $250.00 Civil Fine per occurrence. For address numbers is a $100.00 Civil Fine. Ongoing and repeated violations maybe fined.

Graffiti Removal

Graffiti - City Code 12-3.1

  • Graffiti must be removed from any non-residential structure in 48 hours
    Graffiti must be removed from any residential structure in 7 days
  • A painting permit is not need for graffiti removal if it can be cleaned off or if the same color and texture paint is used to cover the graffiti.

A violation of the listed offense is a $100.00 Civil Fine per occurrence.  Ongoing and repeated violations maybe fined.

Junk Vehicles / Property

Junk Vehicles / Property - City Code 10-19 to 22

No person shall keep, store, or allow to remain on any property zoned residential within the city any abandoned property. No person shall keep, store, or allow to remain on any property zoned residential or commercial within the city any derelict or junk property:

(1)The article has less than nominal salvage value;

(2)The article is not in sufficient repair to perform its intended function.

(3)The article is a motor vehicle on public property and a current license tag, decal or registration is absent or expired;

(4)The article exhibits physical damage incurred to the property in a collision or other incident that has not been repaired;

(5)The article is derelict and has been left unprotected from the elements, as exhibited by growth of vegetation, direct exposure to the elements, the positioning in other than an upright or operable manner, or vandalism; or

(6)The length of time the item has remained in its present location. A vehicle may be considered abandoned if parked or stored on the public right-of-way for a period exceeding forty-eight (48) hours, other than in a designated parking area

A violation of the City Code for the listed offense is a $250.00 Civil Fine per occurrence. Ongoing and repeated violations maybe fined.

Outdoor Storage

Outdoor Storage - City Code 29-5-1701/102

  • All storage of furniture, appliances or other items shall be within permanent buildings and completely obscured from view from the public right of way.
  • Recreational vehicles can be stored on side or rear yards if they comply with Code 29-5-1405 but not in the front yard.
  • Balconies cannot be used for outdoor storage, lawn or patio furniture is allowable.

A violation of the listed offense is a $100.00 Civil Fine per occurrence.  Ongoing and repeated violations maybe fined.

Pools

Pools - City Code 12-4

All pools must meet water clarity standards which all for visibility from the surface to the bottom of the pool

A fence or barrier required around the pool area

A violation of the City Code is up to a $500.00 Civil Fine per occurrence.  Ongoing or repeated violations maybe fined.

Swale

Swale Maintenance

12-46 of the City Code  
It shall be the duty and obligation of all owners and/or occupants of lots in the city to maintain and keep in a clean, litter-free and mowed condition, the swale areas between the public right-of-way and the property line which includes the sidewalk adjacent and contiguous to their lots.

Section 12-47 of the City Code

  • Area must be kept free of litter, rubbish and trash
  • Area must be maintained and not over grown
  • Parking must not damage the swale
  • Only two vehicles maybe parked on the swale, parallel, in the direction of traffic

Swales that are not maintained will be declared a nuisance and will be cited $100.00. In addition, Code 12-49, the City may prohibit parking on the swale until the swale is returned to proper its conditions. Ongoing and repeated violations maybe fined.

Garbage and Trash Placement/pickup  

City Code 9-12/13

  • Garbage cans may only be placed out 24 hours ahead of your scheduled pick-up day
  • Garbage cans must be removed from the swale within 24 hours after your scheduled pick-up day
  • Bulk trash may only be placed out 24 hours ahead of your scheduled pick-up day
  • Landscapers or contactors may not place large tree trimmings out for the City to collect
  • All leaves and small items must be bagged before placing out for pickup on your bulk trash pickup day

A violation of the City Code for Trash Can Placement is a $100.00 Civil Fine per occurrence. Ongoing and repeated violations maybe fined.

 

Quick Tips of How to be Code Compliant  

 

Bulk trash cannot exceed 8 cubic yards.
* Chapter 9- Section 17

Grass / lawn may not exceed 8 inches.
* Chapter 12- Section 5

Storage of inoperable, junk or crashed vehicles on private or commercial property is prohibited.
* Chapter 10 - Section 9

Parking is not allowed the front lawn. Park on your driveway and / or public right of way.
* Chapter 29 - Section 5.1401

Short term rental advertisements are prohibited. * Chapter 5 - Section 30 (d). Short term rentals for a period of 3 months or less in residential zoning districts is not permitted.
* Chapter 29 - Section 5.1610

 

Always obtain permits prior to doing construction.
* Chapter 5 - Section 32

Owners of recreational vehicles, boats, trailers, campers, etc. must obtain an Administrative Variance to be stored and / or parked.
