Friends of the Library
The Friends of the North Miami Public Library group was incorporated
under the laws of Florida as a not-for-profit organization in 1983.
The founders and members are everyday users of the Library, your
neighbors.
The Friends have helped the Library add needed items such as a podium
and microphone, motion picture projector, copier, magazine subscriptions
and puppets. The Friends play an important advocacy role especially
as regards funding issues.
The Annual Book Sale at the Library is an example of a Friends project.
All purchases, donations and membership fees are tax deductible.
In recent years the Friends have secured substantial grants from
various organizations. The grant money has been used for all kinds
of exciting programs: three computers with educational software
(math, science, language, grammar, etc.) have been added; a storyteller
and crafts teacher have been giving children’s programs on Saturdays
afternoons a science teacher has offered popular science classes
once a month; all kinds of beautiful new children’s books have been
added; a spectacular “Once Upon a Time” mural was commissioned by
the Friends for the Children’s Room.
In April 2003, the Friends of the Library won Florida Library Association’s
Friends and Trustees Outstanding Special Project Award for the “Once
Upon a Time” mural.
We urge you to ask the Library staff or a Friends member about how
you can become a Friend of the Library and lend your energies to
help further improve your community Library.
