Personnel - Benefits (General & Sworn Police
Personnel)
Salary:
Paid on a weekly basis on Fridays for the previous work week.
On-The-Job Injury Benefits:
Workers’ Compensation and Supplemental Pay Benefits, when applicable.
Probationary Period:
One year with a six-month, performance evaluation. Evaluations done
annually thereafter.
Merit Increase:
Annually on the anniversary date, based upon performance, until
the employee reaches the top step.
Longevity Pay:
Lump sum bonus on longevity date as follows:
5 yrs = $500
10 yrs = $1,000
15 yrs = $1,500
20 yrs = $2,000
25 yrs = $2,500
30 yrs = $3,000
35 yrs = $3,500
40 yrs = $4,000
C.O.L.A.:
Annual Cost of Living Adjustment, if approved by the City Council,
usually effective the first week of October unless otherwise specified
in the Annual Budget.
Vacation:
Two weeks per year or 10 days or 80 hours; after five years, three
weeks or 15 days or 120 hours; after fifteen years, four weeks or
20 days or 160 hours. Accumulation starts on date of hire. There
is a 6-month waiting period for using vacation time.
Sick Leave:
Ten days per year; after three years, 11 days; after five years, 12 days. Accumulation starts
on date of hire. There is a 3-month waiting period for using sick
time.
Holidays:
Thirteen paid holidays and employee's birthday per calendar year:
10 National Holidays. Two Floating/Personal Holidays.
Tuition Reimbursement:
Reimbursement program for continuing education up to equivalent of 18 CR Hrs per fiscal year at in-state undergraduate FIU rate. Eligible after one
year of full time employment.
Deferred Compensation:
Optional employee contribution to 457 Deferred Compensation Plans offered through ICMA and VALIC.
Savings Bond:
May be purchased through payroll deductions.
Direct Deposit:
Paycheck will be deposited into the financial institution of your
choice.
Employee Assistance Trust Fund:
A trust fund set up by the City of North Miami to assist employees
who are faced with unforeseen emergencies. Participation is on a
volunteer basis.
Life Insurance:
1 x employee's gross annual salary.
Group Health/Dental/Vision Insurance:
100% of employee’s HMO premium paid by the City. Point of service
& dependent coverage is available.

Pension: (General Employees)
Mandatory participation. Required contribution of 7% of gross salary
is deducted pre-tax weekly.
Retirement Dates:
Normal - Age 55 & 20 years of service OR Age 62 & 10 years
of service.
Early - Age 55 & 10 years of service OR 14 years of service.
If you leave the City before 5 years of service, you will receive
your contribution plus interest.

Pension: (Sworn Police Personnel)
Mandatory participation. Required contribution of 6.85% or 4.85%
of gross salary is deducted pre-tax weekly.
Retirement Dates:
Normal - Age 55 & 10 years of service OR Age 50 & 20 years
of service.
Early - Age 50 & 10 years of service.
If you leave the City before 5 years of service, you will receive
your contribution plus interest.
Cafeteria Plan
The City offers Flexible Savings Accounts for reimbursement of medical
and day care expenses through "pre-tax" dollars.
