City Clerk - Alix Desulme
Alix Desulme was born on December 5, 1977 in Arcahaie, Haiti. At the age of six, he moved to Westbury, New York to join his family. While in New York, Alix attended Drexel Elementary and Westbury Junior High. At the age of 13, Alix and his family relocated to North Miami and he enrolled at North Miami Middle School. Alix's passion for civic life emerged early, as a 16 year old at North Miami Senior High School.
Alix's career from youth volunteer, to student activist, to youth advocate to teacher and to CEO has been a straight trajectory rising in one direction-up. It was Alix's constant presence at civic meetings and community events that captured the attention of community leaders as he emerged as a voice for Haitians in North Miami and minorities throughout Miami-Dade County. This early spark and interest in helping others was marked by Alix's characteristic enthusiasm and energy.
At age 22, Alix established Alix Desulme & Associates, Inc. (ADA), a public relations, marketing, and political consulting firm that is based in Miami, Florida. A partial list of ADA's clients include Western Union, The Children's Trust, State of Florida, SogeXpress, Food Express, Seagram's Gin, Chivas Regal, and the Florida Democratic Party. Alix earned a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership/Marketing and Master of Science in Exceptional Student Education from St. Thomas University, in Miami Gardens, Florida. He takes youth issues seriously and became a school teacher to ensure that he always has the pulse on the current issues and trends affecting the hearts and minds of our youth.
Alix is the founder and immediate past chairperson of Young Minorities in Action (YMIA), a Political Action Committee (PAC). This was one of the first registered PACs in the state of Florida targeting young voters with a mission, to educate young minorities about the political process at the local, state, and national levels. Its goals are to increase the number of informed minority voters, and to provide equal opportunity in political affairs for minority youth. Beyond these impressive professional achievements, Alix remains driven to be actively involved in numerous civic organizations, community forums, and political activities that affect the lives of young people.
Alix is the recipient of several local and national awards including: Who's Who in Florida under 25 Years Old, The National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians (NOAH) Outstanding Youth Achievement Award, Miami-Dade County Outstanding Young Professional Award, City of North Miami Close-Up Achievement Award, just to name a few.
Alix is a member of several organizations including the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, Operation Green Leaves Project, North Miami Knights of Columbus, North Miami Business Advisory Committee, Citizens for a Better Government (PAC), North Miami Jaycees, Miami-Dade Democratic Executive Committee, and Planned Parenthood of Greater Miami and the Florida Keys.
On May 12, 2009 in a city-wide election, Alix was elected City Clerk for the City of North Miami.
