Hosted by North Miami City Clerk, Alix Desulme, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools - Region Center II, North Miami Feeder Pattern

North Miami City Clerk, Alix Desulme, in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools - Region Center II to host a geography bowl and leadership conference for students in the North Miami Feeder Pattern as part of the Clerk's NOMI Kids and Democracy program.    

The Geo Bowl and Leadership Conference event is open to the public.  It will take place on Thursday, May 27th from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Gwen Margolis Community Center, 1590 NE 123 Street, in North Miami.

The NOMI Kids and Democracy program is part of the Clerk’s ongoing initiative to involve North Miami’s students in civic activities and projects.  This event is sponsored by the city of North Miami, North Miami Mayor Andre D. Pierre, North Miami City Clerk Alix Desulme, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Wing Span Seminars.

• CITY CLERK ALIX DESULME TO MEET WITH YOUNG,    PROGRESSIVE ELECTED OFFICIALS IN WASHINGTON D.C.

200 progressive elected officials under age 35 will gather to discuss policies, leadership

North Miami’s City Clerk Alix Desulme will join more than 200 other young, progressive elected officials in Washington, DC next week at the fifth annual convening of the national Young Elected Officials Network.

The participants, progressive elected officials from across the country, are all under the age of 35. The young leaders will meet with a number of national leaders in Washington and share with each other their policy ideas, leadership strategies, and best practices.

“Participating in this important event is an honor for me that will greatly benefit the City of North Miami.  The Young Elected Officials Network has some of the most distinguished minds in the country with a firm understanding of issues that impact their communities.  As America show signs of economic recovery, these young leaders of today will talk about tomorrow’s solutions to problems that inhibit our collective progress.  I am delighted and excited to talk about issues that are so critical to our social and economic recovery,” said Desulme. 

Alix Desulme, 33, was elected as North Miami’s first Black City Clerk and was the youngest City Clerk in the US last year. At the convening, Alix will share with other elected officials best practices and passion for the issues of immigration and education.

The Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network, organized by the People for the American Way foundation, consists of over 550 young, progressive city, county, state and federal officials from all 50 states. Most are at the start of their political careers; 89 percent are interested in running for higher office in the future.

“These young elected officials play a critical role in our local, state, and national governments,” said Andrew Gillum, Tallahassee City Commissioner and executive director of the YEO Network. “They are leaders in policy debates around the country, and manage billions of dollars in public funds. They are passionate, innovative, and committed to helping their communities be places of freedom, fairness, and opportunity.  The YEO Network National Convening is a great way for them to work together to share ideas and empower each other as they continue their careers in public service.”
