City Clerk - Elections
General Information
By City Charter, all candidates in North Miami municipal elections must win by a 50% plus 1 margin. The Mayor position is elected to a two-year term. Each individual can serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. That individual can be re-elected again after taking a term off.
The City Council is elected by district to four-year terms. There are no term limits for City Council seats.
The City Clerk is elected to four-year terms. There are no term limits for the City Clerk position.

Proposed City of North Miami Charter Amendments on the ballot
How did these questions come about?
The North Miami Charter Review Board periodically reviews the city's charter. The Board proposed the three amendments that will be found on the ballot. Earlier this year, the North Miami City Council approved to send these questions to voter referendum. If the voters approve the ballot questions, they become amedments to the City of North Miami Municipal Charter, which is in essence the City's "constitution."
The questions refer to:
- the length and duration of a council member's term of office; and
- the length and duration of the mayor's term of office; and
- the length and duration of the city clerk's term of office
