2019 Green Awareness Fair

The Green Awareness Fair serves as a fun educational event for the entire family. There will be environmental and general education, free recycling services including e-recycling, paper shredding, tree giveaways, a bouncy house and more family fun! There will be free yogurt samples provided by Stony Fields. Don’t forget to check out the art contest too!

CONTEST THEME: 
It is Smokey Bear’s 75th Birthday! Design a “Happy Birthday” message that shows Smokey how you will help prevent wild fires, while celebrating his birthday.

CONTEST RULES:
1. Artwork should be on standard letter paper (8.5 x 11 flat, no folding). No digital artwork submissions.
2. Submissions must be original 2-dimensional art only and follow the theme stated above.
3. “Entry Form” below must be filled out completely and taped to the back of the artwork.4. Original art work will not be returned.

DEADLINE AND SUBMISSION: 
Submit all artwork in-person, by 3:00 p.m. on April 23, 2019, to the North Miami Community Planning and Development Department, located at 12400 NE 8 Avenue, North Miami, FL 33161 (Attention to Sustainability Administrator"). Contestants may also submit entries via US Mail to the same address. Mailed-in submissions must be post marked, by April 17, 2019.

WINNERS:
Winners will be announced and must be present, at the City of North Miami's Green Awareness Fair, on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., at Ben Franklin Park, 134 NW 12 Avenue, North Miami.

Winners will be notified via phone prior to the Green Awareness Fair.

  • First and 2nd place winners in each age group will be announced and receive prizes.
  • The artwork of the 1st and 2nd place winners , as well as, the 3rd, 4th and 5th place runners-up artwork will be displayed at the Green Awareness Fair.
  • 1st PLACE: $50 Amazon gift card, a one-year family of 4 MOCA membership and the winner's artwork will be framed and displayed in various City owned facilities.
  • 2nd PLACE: $25 Amazon gift card and an individual one-year MOCA membership.
  • 1st and 2nd place winners will also receive a framed version of their artwork and will be recognized at a future North Miami Council Meeting. (Date TBA).

The North Miami Memory Project - A Historical Exhibit and Program Series

The Greater North Miami Historical Society, Florida International University Libraries, and the North Miami Public Library invite you to enjoy this interactive exhibit of framed photographs from the 1940s-1960s and oral histories of North Miamians from the StoryCorps project.

Learn what it was to live in the City of North Miami from the very early days to the 1980s.
