Get ready to blast off into a universe of stories! 

The 2019 Summer Reading Program begins Friday,June 7 and runs through Saturday, August 3.

The North Miami Public Library is the place for out-of-this-world learning and exploring all summer long!

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

All participants, ages 0 -18, will be eligible for a chance to win fabulous prizes by reading and reporting on the books read.

Parents of babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolage children will log the books they read to their children.

The rules are simple:

  1. Visit the NoMi Library and sign-up to read.
  2.  Pick-up your reading log.
  3. List the titles of the books you read until the log is completed.
  4. Submit your completed log to enter the drawing for a chance to win a grand prize.

***Only 1 reading log will be accepted per library visit.***

The deadline to log all books read fora chance to enter the annual raffle to win fantastic prizes is Saturday, August 3rd at 5:00 p.m.

Betty Butterfly Book Reading

Lola Heasley is a Master Naturalist for the City of North Miami. She enjoys her role in promoting and protecting the environment, especially at North Miami’s Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park, a place she has called her “second home” for more than 20 years.

KRIC! KRAC!


Author and storyteller, Liliane Nerette Louis,will tell folktales from her native, Haiti. Guests will also learn how to make “beignet,” a delicatessen sold by street merchants at carnival time.

African Folklore, Drum & Dance


Participants will dance and learn about percussion instruments. They will also learn life lessons from Aesop’s Fables, along with Adinkra symbols of the Ashanti and the Baoules people of Africa.

Tuesday, July 2 - 10:00 a.m.
Imagine That!


Pourquoi stories explain the origin of things in the universe. Learn exactly how the elephant got its trunk; why little crabs hide under rocks; why mosquitoes buzz in people’s ears and much more!

Benny Bee Master Spelling Bee


Meet Benny Bee and his busy bee in a master bee spelling competition! He will also have prizes,games, mini-scavenger hunts and a dance-off.

Tuesday, July 16 - 10:00 a.m.
The Legend of Pink Elephant II

Hear the story of the only Pink elephant in the forest, as he takes a journey that changes his life. This story is for anyone who has ever been made to feel like they don’t fit in or who felt they had to change in order to belong.

Tuesday, July 23 - 10:00 a.m.
For Kids By Kids

Participants in this workshop will author their own book and illustrate the story guided by a visual artist. A collective storybook will be created by the students. The book will be kept at the Library as keepsake.

Tuesday, July 30 - 10:00 a.m.
Explore the Universe With Salty Sue the Pirate!


Storytelling and magic focused on the sun,the stars and the universe. There is also a treasure hunt and fabulous fun for all!

ON-GOING PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN:

Wednesdays 4:00 p.m. & 6:30 p.m.
Discover the World! Explore the Universe!

Stories, songs, rhymes, and follow-up activities. Ages 4 and up.

Saturdays - 10:00 a.m.
Wags-N-Tales and Crafts Too!


Therapy Dogs visit the Library and would love for your child share a story with them! Readers will make a new furry friend and participate in follow-up crafts project.

Get in Gear Community Monthly Bike Ride

Get in Gear Community Monthly Bike Ride

Rides take place on the second Saturday of the month

MOCA Plaza, 770 NE 125 Street, North Miami

Registration: 8:00 a.m.
Departure: 8:30 a.m.
Start/End: MOCA Plaza
Length of the Ride: Round Trip approximately 10 miles

Commit yourself to a healthier lifestyle by participating in this 10 mile ride through North Miami! The ride is safe (where else do you get a police escort?), it’s easy (stops are made during the ride for water and restroom breaks) and it’s fun (bring your friends!).

Our mission is to encourage a healthier lifestyle through exercise and more nutritional diets.

Bring your own bike. Helmets are required for all participants ages 16 and under and encouraged for all participants.

The North Miami Memory Project - A Historical Exhibit and Program Series

The Greater North Miami Historical Society, Florida International University Libraries, and the North Miami Public Library invite you to enjoy this interactive exhibit of framed photographs from the 1940s-1960s and oral histories of North Miamians from the StoryCorps project.

Learn what it was to live in the City of North Miami from the very early days to the 1980s.
